Nasi (“Nasi,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) helps you save recipes from TikTok, Instagram and Facebook videos, photos and PDFs and turn them into organized, cookable recipes. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you use the Nasi mobile app and related services (the “Service”).

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

01Information We Collect

Information You Provide

Account information. When you create an account, we collect:

  • Your email address.
  • Your name, if your sign-in provider shares it.
  • A unique account identifier.

You can sign up with Apple, Google or email and password. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose “Hide My Email,” we only receive Apple’s private relay address. If you sign up with email, your password is handled by our authentication provider. We never see or store it in plain text.

Onboarding answers. During onboarding we ask optional questions. Examples include how often you cook, where you find recipes, your dietary preferences, whether you want reminders, and which plan interests you. We use these answers to personalize Nasi and improve the product.

Recipes and content you import. When you save a recipe, we process what you give us:

  • Links: TikTok, Instagram and Facebook links.
  • Photos: photos or screenshots of recipes that you pick or take with the camera.
  • PDFs: PDF files that you upload.

Your library. We store the recipes, cookbooks, favorites, ratings, notes and cooking history you create so they’re backed up and available on your account.

Communications. If you contact us for support or send feedback or feature ideas, we collect the information you include.

Payment information. Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive or store your credit card or payment details.

Information Collected Automatically

Device identifiers. We create a random, app-specific identifier to link your device to your recipe library. It isn’t your Apple advertising identifier, and we don’t use it to track you across other apps or websites.

Subscription status. We receive information about whether you have an active Nasi Pro subscription. It comes through our subscription provider and includes things like your plan, trial status and renewal status.

Technical logs. Our servers keep limited technical logs, such as import job status and error messages, to run the Service and fix problems.

We do not use third-party advertising SDKs. We don’t sell your data or show you ads, and we don’t track you across other companies’ apps and websites.

02Information That Stays on Your Device

Some information never leaves your iPhone:

  • Profile photo. If you add one, it’s stored only on your device.
  • Hands-free voice commands. Hands-free cook mode listens for short commands like “next,” “back” and “timer.” Speech recognition runs on your device, so voice audio isn’t sent to us or to third parties. The microphone is only used while hands-free mode is on.
  • Meal plan and grocery list. These are stored locally on your device.
  • App preferences. Your layout, shelf style, appearance and similar settings are stored locally.

03How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Create and manage your account and let you sign in securely.
  • Turn imported links, videos, photos and PDFs into structured recipes, including ingredients, steps, servings and cook times.
  • Store, sync and back up your recipes and cookbooks.
  • Provide cook mode, meal planning, grocery lists and reminders.
  • Manage your subscription, free trial and free import limits.
  • Personalize your experience based on your onboarding answers.
  • Respond to support requests and feedback.
  • Monitor performance, fix bugs and improve the Service.
  • Detect and prevent abuse, fraud and misuse.

04How Recipe Importing Works

Public content only. When you import a social media link, Nasi processes the publicly available content of that post: the caption, title, description, thumbnail, and the video’s audio. We can’t access private accounts or private posts, and we never ask for or store your social media passwords.

Video audio. Many creators say the recipe out loud instead of writing it. To capture it, our servers may temporarily download the audio of a public video and turn it into a text transcript. This happens in temporary storage, and the audio file is deleted once processing is done.

Photos and PDFs. When you import a photo, screenshot or PDF, it’s sent to our servers to read the recipe text and details. An imported photo may be kept as the cover image of that recipe in your library.

AI processing. To structure recipes, we send the following to OpenAI:

  • Captions, transcripts, and extracted text.
  • Recipe photos or PDF page images.

It’s used only to generate your recipe. Under OpenAI’s API data policy, this data isn’t used to train their models.

Reusing recipes from the same public link. If you import a public link that has already been turned into a recipe for another user, Nasi may reuse that already-processed recipe. This makes imports faster and reduces processing. Only the recipe content from the public post is reused. Your account details, library, notes, ratings and other personal information are never shared with other users.

Private by default. Your recipe library is private to your account. Nasi has no public profiles or social feed.

05Permissions We Request

Nasi only asks for device permissions when you use a feature that needs them. You can change them anytime in iOS Settings.

Permission Why we ask
Camera To scan printed recipes and save recipes from photos
Photo Library To import recipe screenshots and set recipe cover photos
Microphone To listen for voice commands in hands-free cook mode
Speech Recognition To recognize short cooking commands on your device
Notifications To send optional reminders and let you know when imports are ready

06How We Share Information

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share information only in these cases:

  • Service providers. We use trusted providers to run the Service (listed below). They may process your information only to provide their services to us.
  • Legal requirements. When required by law, subpoena or other legal process, or to protect the rights, safety and property of Nasi, our users or the public.
  • Business transfers. If Nasi is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that deal.
  • With your consent. When you explicitly choose to share something, for example sharing a recipe or the app with a friend.

07Third-Party Services

Nasi relies on these providers. Each one handles data under its own privacy policy:

Provider What it does
Supabase Account authentication and secure database storage for your account, recipes and cookbooks
Railway Hosting for the servers that process recipe imports
OpenAI AI processing to turn captions, transcripts, photos and PDFs into structured recipes, and to transcribe video audio
Apify Retrieving publicly available captions and metadata from social media links
RevenueCat Managing subscriptions, free trials and purchase status
Apple Sign in with Apple, App Store distribution, payment processing and on-device speech recognition
Google Sign in with Google, if you choose it

08Data Retention

  • Account and library. We keep your account and recipe library for as long as your account is active.
  • Video audio and temporary files. These are deleted after the import finishes.
  • Server logs. These are kept only as long as needed to run and troubleshoot the Service.
  • After account deletion. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable time, unless we’re legally required to keep it.

Logging out of Nasi removes your account data from that device.

09Deleting Your Account

You can delete your account and associated data:

  • In the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account, or
  • By email: contact us at the address below.

Deleting your account permanently removes your account, recipes, cookbooks and onboarding answers from our systems.

Deleting your account doesn’t cancel an active App Store subscription. Cancel it in your Apple ID settings → Subscriptions.

10Data Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information:

  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all data sent between the app and our servers.
  • Access controls on our databases.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.

11Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Delete your account and data.
  • Receive a copy of your data in a portable format.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.

You can also turn off camera, photo, microphone, speech and notification access at any time in iOS Settings. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.

12Children’s Privacy

Nasi isn’t intended for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that we have collected such information, we’ll delete it promptly. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us.

13International Data Transfers

Nasi and its service providers may process your information in countries other than where you live, including the United States. These countries may have different data protection laws. We take reasonable steps to make sure your information stays protected as described in this policy.

14Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We’ll post any changes on this page and update the “Last updated” date. If the changes are significant, we’ll notify you in the app or by email.
